Staring at the Sun; 01

Severus was startled awake as something jabbed him in the ribs, and the first thing he saw was the half-written essay he’d been using as a pillow, the ink blotting in a puddle of drool that trailed in a string from his chin. Disoriented, he tried to wipe his face on his shirtsleeve – only to discover he was wearing a short-sleeved shirt – and blinked several times, looking up into a face he always hated waking up to.

“You realize we’ve got class this morning, don’t you?”

“Scorp. How did you get over there?” he croaked groggily. “You were just…” Sev looked around himself again and realized he was not in his dorm as he thought he’d been. “Oh, must’ve been a dream,” he concluded, smiling sleepily up at Scorpius, who did not respond very nicely.

“Wake the hell up!” he said loudly, leaning imposingly over Severus, who winced at the loud noise of his voice. “Do you realize what time it is? We’ve got Muggle Studies in fifteen minutes, you oaf!” Severus tried to get his mind working again. It always took an unbearably long time to get his brain in gear after a sleep. Especially when he’d been dreaming. But he slowly took notice of all the crucial little details. One was that for whatever reason, he’d been sleeping at a table in the common room, in his clothes from the night before. Another was that he had a very strange feeling, that wasn’t completely due to just having woken up. He also realized, at last, that his Muggle Studies paper was as yet, undone.

“Ohh…shit!” He stood up too quickly and his head began to swam, and at the same time he noticed something else that was very off, and not in a good way. He looked sideways at Scorpius and bit his lip, thinking of what to do. “I’m gonna, erm… I’m going to go use the bathroom…” he trailed off, edging toward the door that led off the common room to the boys’ loo, and Scorpius sighed and leaned against the edge of the table.

 ★ ★ ★

There was one reason, and one reason only that Albus Severus Potter and Scorpius Malfoy had any interest in Muggle Studies, and that was Patricia Pinkerton, who taught the class. Patricia was a beautiful 28 year old Muggle rights activist, who had taken the job a year before when the previous teacher had quit for reasons he wouldn’t disclose. Before Patricia had come along, Severus and Scorpius had despised the subject. One could say they’d allegedly gone so far as putting jarvey jizz in Professor Roundy’s tea and inviting a ghoul to live in his wardrobe. Not that any of that can be proven, because the ghoul doesn’t speak English.

“Sorry we’re late, Professor,” said Scorpius, striding into the classroom to the first row desk, with Severus in tow. “Potter had an issue to work out.” He and Severus took their seats and began pulling out their books.

“And surely you couldn’t have come without him?” she asked, half-smiling at him in that beautiful way she did. Scorpius looked up from what he was doing to answer her, and caught himself in her blue eyes for a moment.

“Er, no Professor, we always come together.”

Someone near the back of the classroom snickered, and Sev shot them a hostile glance. Professor Pinkerton sighed, and turned back to the blackboard behind her. “Pictured here is what’s called an electrical outlet,” she said, speaking again to the class as a whole. “These conduct electricity, which you’ll remember we studied earlier in the year…”

Scorpius felt his eyelids becoming heavy as his brain tuned out the words she was saying and focused on the sounds of Patricia’s voice. It was soft and melodic, and not high-pitched like a lot of girls he went out with. He felt Severus lean in toward him and whisper in his ear, “Ohh, no, she’s dropped the chalk again,” in a way that didn’t sound like he was sorry for it at all. Patricia frowned and bent over to retrieve it, and Scorp and Sev leaned closer to each other and softly sang, “Ass like that.”

The class seemed to drag on, while the students tried to pay attention to their reading about plugs and outlets. Severus and Scorpius occasionally snickered to each other and pointed out a line in their textbooks about inserting something into something else, and Patricia busied herself at her desk, reading and grading papers.

Finally, she walked to the front of the room and said, “Alright, class, I’d like you to please hand in your essays on electrical wiring. Pass them to the person in front of you, and the person in front, hand them to me.”

Severus swore under his breath and rummaged in his bag, making time to think up an excuse for not finishing it. In his efforts to put off her giving him a detention – which was inevitable – most of the class had handed in their work and left the classroom by the time she’d realized his paper was missing. Scorpius hung back, waiting by the door for his friend.

“Albus?”

He cleared his throat. “Severus, please, ma’am,” he said, standing and walking around the desk toward her.

“Oh, right,” she said, blushing and running her fingers through her dark hair. "I always forget cause, you know it says Albus on every paper…”

Sev was now standing a few feet away from her, in front of the desk he and Scorpius occupied. He felt taller around Patricia than he did around most anyone else, even though she wasn’t all that short. Maybe it was her quiet nature, in contrast with his outgoing, spontaneous personality. He counted it a good thing, as hanging out with Scorpius always made him feel short. It was good to be the tall one, every once in a while.. “Right… Okay, Professor Pinkerton, I know this looks bad and it’s like…the third time, but I didn’t finish the paper.”

She bit her lip, looking over the boy and wondering what she could ever do about his constantly lowering grade. “Well, do you at least have the part you did finish?”

Sev made a strange expression that was half smile and half grimace. “Trust me, you don’t want it. I, er…I fell asleep on it.” He grabbed the paper off the desk and gave her a glimpse of it – enough for her to see the ink stains and that it looked a little damp.

Patricia sighed, and hung her head a little. “Really, Mr. Potter, what are we going to do with you?” She smiled a little, and added, “I’m beginning to think you like my detentions.” She straightened the stack of parchment in her hands, and didn’t see his grin.

Scorpius groaned quietly and walked over, saying, “Professor, please, don’t give Sev another detention! At this rate he won’t have any time to do the one thing he’s actually good at.” He put his arm around Sev’s shoulders, and at her confused look, he went on. “You know, Quidditch! The entire team is practically riding on his shoulders, and if he doesn’t get the practice time he needs, Slytherin suffers. We don’t want that, do we?” Severus watched as his best friend made those big pouty eyes he did oh-so well. They were a rare sight, except to someone close to him, and when you did see them they almost made your heart melt. Well, they almost made his heart melt, anyway.

Patricia smiled at the boys. “Well I’m a Hufflepuff, so it doesn’t matter much to me. You’ll have detention at five tomorrow afternoon. You’re free to go.”

Sev and Scorpius packed up their things and left, one feeling quite a bit lighter-hearted than the other.

 ★ ★ ★

“Why do you fucking do that all the time?”

Severus looked confusedly across the way at Scorpius, who had just thrown his book down onto his bed. “Oh, don’t give me that look. You always act so innocent, like you’ve no idea what you did wrong.” He leaned forward, over the gap between their beds, and said quietly, “Do I need to spell it out?”

Scorp’s gaze threw Severus off guard, and the model dragon that had been flying around the room fell onto his bed. “Well, yes, please do, because you obviously think I’ve done something wrong and I’ve no clue what.”

Sev flicked his wand, and the toy dragon that had been flying around his head fell to the bed. “Yes, please do, because you obviously think I’ve done something wrong and I’ve no clue.”

Scorpius groaned and leaned back against his pillow. “Patricia, dipshit.”

Sev furrowed his eyebrows, more confused than ever. “What about her, asshole?

Scorp rolled his eyes. “You and your bloody detentions! You’re really not giving this a fair chance, are you? Did you forget we’d had an agreement?”

Severus turned so he was properly facing Scorpius. “No, I didn’t. So far as I know, the agreement was that we were gonna do it like everything else: may the best man win. So what’s the problem? If you’re so fussed about my spending more time with her, why don’t you get a few detentions.”

“You know I can’t do that, you git. My father would kill me if my grades started to drop.” He put his hand on his book, as though he were about to pick it up but didn’t want to officially end the conversation. “Besides,” he said with a sideways look at Sev, “the way you’re going I wouldn’t have a chance anyway,” he said resentfully. “The way you’re going you’ll be shagging her by the weekend.”

“You really think I could have her that fast?” Severus grinned, and picked up the box of Bertie’s from his nightstand.

“Idiot.

old paper

So, I decided to sort through my old old old writings and post a bit on here. There are very few original bits of stories, and most of them are fanfictions, but I thought it'd be fun to go through them again and let you see a bit of my early writing. :)

I'll try to sort them out into the different stories...for some of them it'll be hard, because they start as one thing and then change over time, especially with the LotR fics.

Pirates of the Caribbean
written around age 13/14; Nicole, or Nikki Loveheart was one of my first roleplay characters. I'd been involved in a LotR roleplay, and my friend Annicka made a PotC one on avidgamers. Nikki was nineteen years old, and had a romantic history with Jack Sparrow. She'd been orphaned and sent to live with Governor Swan, and become childhood friends with Elizabeth and Will Turner. But the pirate life had intrigued her too much, and she'd run off to become one of them. In the time the movie takes place, Nikki would've come back, and Will would've fallen for her instead of Elizabeth. I had this whole thing all planned out, with changes to the actual script and everything. Of course, none of it is consistent with the second and third movies.
16-year-old Nicole stood on a balcony of a Hotel in Tortuga, looking out on the town. She turned her gaze to the sea, leaning on the rail, and watched the sun set. Jack Sparrow came up behind her, holding two bottles of rum in his hand, and put his arms around her slim waist and rested his chin on her shoulder. Nicole let out a sigh and said, "Isn't it lovely, Jack?"
"Indeed!" he looked at her and smiled a drunken smile. "Have another bottle of rum, woncha love?" Nicole turned around so that she was facing him. "Jack, you know I don't drink." "But it's a celebbuberabubbleababa...what is it again?" "A celebration?" "That's it! That's the one! We are celebrating 8 years since I got off that godforsaken spit of land!" "Jack I --" "Please?" Nicole took the bottle of rum from him. She pushed past him and went inside, sitting at a small wooden vanity, and took a swig from the bottle. Jack put his arms around her from behind and whispered in her ear, "you got a little something right here." He kissed her neck and unlaced the front of her dress a bit. Nicole stood up and walked to the other side of the room. "Aww, Nikki," Jack said. "Is that all I am to you, Jack? A cabin wench?" "No no no, Love, you are...much more to me." He walked toward her, the bottle of rum still in his hand. "You'll always be my first mate, Love. Ship or no." Nicole smiled and he took her hand. "Really?" she asked. Jack leaned in and kissed her lips. He drew her closer. Nicole pulled away a little, looking into Jack's deep eyes. "Jack," Nicole looked deep into his eyes, and discovered that it was not her he wanted, but her body. "This is wrong." She pushed away from him, going again to the balcony. "What is it, love?" He walked to her. Nicole turned around. "Jack, you know what I was going to ask, and I already know the true answer." "Ask me, then." "Jack, Do you...do you love me?" Jack paused. "Well, I..." Nicole turned her back to him and looked out at the dark sea, behind which the red sun had just set."
"Oh, shut up, Nicole! You could never be a pirate! Unless you were little Freckle Faced Nikki, the cabin wench!" "Leave her alone," yelled Kimberley Chapparell, running to the girl's side. "You stay out of this, Big Boobs Kimmi!" "Shut your mouth, Seasick Tom," shouted the girl, Nicole Loveheart, a 12-year-old girl with yellow hair, emerald green eyes, and lots of freckles. "And if we can be cabin wenches, you can be the cabin wench's cabin wench." "Or worse," said Kimberley, a girl of about 14, with fairly tan skin, light brown eyes, and brown hair streaked with gold, which fell in loose curls at her shoulders. "You could be the cabin wench's cabin wench's cleaning service!" Tommy, a boy of 13, with black hair and black eyes, glared at them coldly.
Pirates of the Caribbean Script

Scene 1: (Dream sequence of Will's rescue)

[Young Elizabeth stands at the bow of a ship with Nicole and sings]

YOUNG ELIZABETH: ...We pilliage, we plunder, we rifle and loot. Drink up, me 'hearties yo ho! We kidnap and ravage and don't give a hoot. Drink up me hearties yo ho! Yo ho, yo, ho, a pirate's life for me. We extort, we pilfer, we filch and we sack, Drink up --
[Gibbs puts his hand on her shoulder, which surprises her. Nicole turns around and looks at Gibbs]
GIBBS: Quiet, missy! Cursed pirates sail these waters. You don't want to bring them down on us, now, do ya?
NORRINGTON: Mr. Gibbs, that will do!
GIBBS: She was singing about pirates. Bad luck to be singing about pirates with us mired in this unnatural fog. Mark my words.
NORRINGTON: Consider them marked. On your way.
GIBBS: Aye, Lieutenant. It's bad luck to have women on board, too... even a couple o' miniature ones.
YOUNG ELIZABETH: I think it'd be rather exciting to meet a pirate.
[Nicole looks quickly at Elizabeth, but remains silent]
NORRINGTON: Think again, Miss Swann. Vile and dissolute creatures, the lot of them. I intend to see to it that any man who sails under a pirate flag or wears a pirate brand gets what he deserves -- a short drop and a sudden stop.
[Elizabeth glances at Gibbs, who mimes a hanging, and Nicole turns away and looks out at the foggy sea]
GOVERNOR SWANN: Lieutenant Norrington, I appreciate your fervor . . .

The Lord of the Rings
written from ages 12 - 16; I had several different ideas for Lord of the Rings. I can't really remember now which ones came first, but I do know that it started with me putting a character smack in the middle of the Fellowship. She was an elf named Ellaniel (after my own middle name, Ellen), and of course, the plan was for her to end up with Legolas. That was the plan with all my characters. There were two basic ideas; Ellaniel, and another one who would be kind of like a princess. Something like a daughter of the Valar who wandered Middle Earth for thousands of years. She began to make more sense than a tenth member of the Fellowship, and she changed just about every time I sat down to write her. Mostly things like her appearance, name, and how she knew Legolas. With Ellaniel, there was actually a fair amount of time that I actually sat down and copied everything out of the Fellowship of the Ring, and edited it to fit her. I did most of this on a computer I don't think we have anymore, but I have a little on paper, too. Ellaniel was the granddaughter of Galadriel and Celeborn, and cousin of Arwen.
Across the table from Arwen sat another beautiful Elf Maiden. She had golden hair which hung straight all the way below her waist, and lovely green eyes that seemed to twinkle in the light. She wore not the usual Elven-made dress that most Elf Maidens wore, but a beautiful white dress which looked as if it were made by human hands. Te dress looked fit for a princess or even a Queen among humans, with the sleeves hanging almost to the ground by the way she sat, with her arms resting on the arms of her chair. The dress had no intricate designs, which were usually found on all Elven dresses, but she wore a plain golden girdle, which hung low on her waist. She was very quiet, and for a minute, Frodo thought she may not be able to speak at all. Such lovelyness in a living thing Frodo had never seen before nor imagined in his mind......
At lenght, the feast came to an end. Elrond and Arwen rose and went down the hall, followed by the Elf who had sat across from Arwen, and the company followed in due order....
He then pointed out and named those whom Frodo had not met before. There was a younger Dwarf at Gloin's side: his son Gimli. Beside Glorfindel there were several other counselors of Elrond's household, of whom Erestor was the cheif; and with him was Galdor, an Elf from the Grey Havens, who had com on errand from Cirdan the Shipwright. There was also a strange Elf clad in green and brown, Legolas, a messenger from his father, Thranduil, the King of the Elves of Northern Mirkwood. Next to him sat a figure cloaked in brown, a hood hiding his face in shadow. And seated a little apart was a tall man with a fair and noble face, dark-haired and grey-eyed, proud and stern of glance....
'for the rest, they shall represent the other free Peoples of the World: Elves, Dwarves, and Men. Legolas shall be for the Elves; and Gimli son of Gloin for the Dwarves. They are willing to go at least to the passes of the Mountains, and maybe beyond. For men you shall have Aragor son of Arathorn, for the Ring of Isildur concerns him closely.' 'Strider!' cried Frodo. 'Yes,' he said with a smile. 'I ask leave once again to be your companion, Frodo.' 'I would have begged you to come,' said Frodo, 'only I thought you were going to Minas Tirith with Boromir.' 'I am,' said Aragorn. 'And the Sword-that-was-Broken shall be re-forged ere I set out to war. But your road and our road lie together for many hundreds of miles. Therefore Boromir will also be in the Company. He is a valiant man.' 'There remain two more to be found. These I will consider. Of my household, I may find some that it seems good to me to send.' 'But that will leave no place for us!' cried Pippin in dismay. 'We don't want to be left behind. We want to go with Frodo'........ 'Let it be so, then. You shall go,' said Elrond, and he signed. 'Now the tale of the Nine is filled. In seven days the Company must depart.' As he finished speaking, the Elf Maiden who sat across the table from Arwen the night of the feast came running down the hall and towards them, her long and fair hair trailing behind her. She stopped and whispered something in Elvish into Elrond's ear. He shook his head and spoke softly back to her. 'Please, Uncle,' she said quietly. Elrond reluctantly turned back to the others. 'I have decided,' he said, 'that the Company shall have ten members instead of nine. This tenth member shall be my niece, Ellaniel,' he gestured towards the girl beside him. The others stared at her in disbelief, for they did not believe that a She Elf could brave this journey that lie ahead of them.....
Gimli the Dwarf alone wore openly a short shirt of steelrings, for dwarves make light of burdens; and in his belt was a broad-bladed axe. Legolas had a bow and a quiver, and at his belt a long white knife. Ellaniel wore the clothes of the mysterious Elf that had attended the Council of Elrond, which was cheifly green, brown, and grey. Underneath the cloak was a tough leather top covering a thin, short, grey dress. She had green pants underneath, and wore leather boots and hard leather bracers. In her belt was a long, thin sword with a beautifully made, yet very strong, hilt. She carried many hidden knives with her, and on either side of her belt was a long, double-sided knife. Her hair was put into two braids, and with her she carried a small bag, full of herbs and healing remedies, and a small brush and handheld mirror.....

How many languages do you speak?

Well I speak English, obviously. I took a year of Spanish, but barely learned a word.
I do know a little bit of American Sign Language...
but not enough to really speak it :/

I'd love to be able to. And I'd looove to learn French. It's not very useful...it'd be a whole lot more practical to learn Spanish, but I'm just not as interested. French is such a beautiful language...I'd love to be able to sing in it :)

Anywho, last post of the night... (I mean morning. :P)
I'm off to bed. Goodnight LiveJournal ♥

I just felt like making this list C: I'm sure I'll change it and add more to it over time. These are names that I really REALLY love. I usually go for simple names that aren't very common, but fairly traditional. No names that are already in my family, but I do like the idea of family names - like names that have been in the family for a while. Like mine. Rachel is the middle name of my mom's cousin and her two daughters, and Ellen was my grandfather's sister. C:

bailey's bio

Aphrodite Lucille was the youngest of the Malfoy children, born to --- and Abraxas in June of YYYY. For years she was the shining star of the family, far braver and funnier than Lucius, who was older than her by several years. But the year that Lucius was made a Slytherin Prefect changed everything. That was the year that the first of generations and generations of Malfoys was sorted into the wrong house. It was the year Aphrodite Malfoy became a Gryffindor. Her family was outraged, naturally. At first at the school - they wrote letters and pleaded to Professor Albus Dumbledore, and went so far as to try to bribe the board of Governors to switch her to Slytherin, but all failed. Slowly but surely, their anger was turned toward Aphrodite. They refused to speak with her, and Lucius practically ignored her at school. Abraxas even went so far as to threaten to disown her. But eventually they calmed down, though things were never the same between them and their daughter again. Though by this time Lucius had graduated from Hogwarts, their relationship began to grow again through letters and gifts.

Though most of her time at Hogwarts was spent in distress over her family, Aphrodite did have very many good experiences there. She was exceedingly good at Transfiguration and Potions, and took fascination in Herbology and History of Magic. She was a very lively girl, and played Quidditch and befriended a great many people. One of the most important friends she ever made was a bookwormish Hufflepuff a few years older than her, by the name of Keala Susan Thompson.

Susan was a lonely girl who was made fun of an awful lot. Kind of the Moaning Myrtle of her generation. She had large glasses and read a lot, but she wasn't very smart, and had a morbid fascination with blood. She'd been living in Ireland for a year with a rich uncle, but she was originally from the United States. Aphrodite, as was her nature, befriended the girl. At first it was out of pity, but she took a liking to the girl. Susan gave Aphrodite one of the most meaningful gifts of her life - an introduction to Susan's older brother, Benjamin. Though the Thompson family was pureblooded (a long line, intertwined with Hawaiian royalty), Benjamin was a Squib, so he did not attend Hogwarts, and instead lived in California, working as a shoe salesman, and writing for a local newspaper on the side.

Their romance, at first, was a bit awkward, and no one thought it could last very long, but to everyone's surprise, they didn't break up.

After graduating Hogwarts, Aphrodite found her calling as a children's lawyer, and advocate for Muggle rights. She and Susan also became members of an anti-Voldemort movement called the Order of the Phoenix. On her eighteenth birthday, Benjamin proposed to her, and they were wed that December. They lived happily for a few years in an apartment in the heart of London, where Aphrodite was close to her work, and Benjamin got a job as a columnist for the Daily Prophet. It was called 'A Muggle Among Us', and was about his life as a Squib in the wizarding world. They thought their life couldn't get better...until they found out that Aphrodite was expecting.

Bailey Ann Thompson was born on July 3rd, of 1979. Money was tight, and the Malfoys had minimal contact with Aphrodite and her family, but they scraped by on Benjamin's newspaper commissions for several months. But it was not a good time to raise a child in England. People were dying left and right, and Voldemort continued to grow more and more powerful. Benjamin and Aphrodite were both very openly against Voldemort, and in fear for Bailey's safety, the uprooted their little family and moved to the United States.

Bailey lived a beautiful life in California. Benjamin's parents, Kahealani and Alexander, were very good to her, and though they were not rich by any standard, they gave her anything they could. They watched over her when both her parents had to work, and Bailey loved listening to stories about her Tutu's Hawaiian culture or her Granddad's journey from Ireland. Bailey loved the nature around her - the mountains in the distance and the (well-irrigated) desert at her feet, but most of all she loved the ocean. On trips to the shore, Bailey could most often be found just staring out at the sea.

When Bailey was eight years old, she was told that she was going to have a little brother or sister! Little did any of them know that she'd have both. On January 13th, 1989, Bailey held her small siblings, Bradin Alexander and Chelsea Kahea in her arms and told them she loved them. Her life was made only more beautiful by these two new little people, and for several months, the Thompsons lived a charmed life.

But all that ended quite abruptly one August night later that year. The Thompsons had thought they'd be safe in the United States, especially since Voldemort had been killed, but there were still many who wanted revenge on Aphrodite for her hard work against Voldemort. She had far set him back in his rise to power years and years ago. So when Mr. Thompson was out grocery shopping, doing his wife a favor while she put the kids to sleep, three Death Eaters came for her. She fought as hard as she could, but Bailey watched from the closet with her baby brother and sister as her mother was ruthlessly killed.

The family was distraught, and Bailey seemed an empty shell for months, until her father finally sent her away from harsh memories, to live with her Aunt Susan in London, until it was time for her to go to Hogwarts. Bailey also stayed with the Malfoys from time to time, and the companionship of their son Draco was the best thing to help her cope with the loss of her mother. They played and talked and laughed for hours and hours, and Lucius and Narcissa, who had already fallen in love with their niece, spoiled her senseless.

But the time came to say goodbye to her Aunt Susan and the Malfoys, when the Hogwarts Express came to take her away for a year. Maybe Hogwarts would help her leave her memories behind, and make new ones. But with the new hope arose new fears; If she isn't in Slytherin, will her Malfoy family not accept her? It was nearly all they talked about when she was there, and they seemed sure that she would be in Slytherin. But if she is, what will her other family think? What would her mother have thought? Now Bailey doesn't know where she belonged, or what will happen to her when she finds out.

dark night, hold tight

So, that subject has absolutely nothing to do with this post. In fact, I'm not sure what does have to do with this post. Or what this post has to do with.

I guess I'm just writing because it's been so long since my last update :]

Well anywho, I haven't really gotten any farther on any of my stories. We're all getting back on BTS, so that's good! And I've decided to finally do that revamp of TNG that I've been wanting to do for so long. It's even got a new name: After The Ashes. And we'll have a plotline and everything! But first, Nat and I are working on getting WATM up and running. Mostly because we need a change from all the Hogwartsing, and also because IT'S SUCH A FUN SITE OMG!

:)

So I'm really excited!

On a more personal note, I've got a choir concert this Sat. at the Crystal Cathedral, so we've been rehearsing big time, and I'm cleaning my room! Which means dumping everything on the floor, moving all my furniture around, and then trying to actually clean my room, and pick up all the junk that covers basically every surface.

I do this every couple months :P Spring cleaning, maybe? Haha.

Probably having to be away from my family, and not really knowing when I'll see them again, because anything could happen. I'd probably be pretty terrified, too, but supposing I were the type of person to be a guard, I would probably be a different person altogether.

rough plot outlines...

here are my latest inspirations!
I hope you enjoy reading about them as much as I enjoy thinking them up! I'm so excited to get to write this stuff :]

Mister, I don’t believe in you.
Two, maybe three little girls - probably cousins or sisters, or two sisters and a cousin - meet a Magic man who reveals to them a whole new fantastical world.

When I was eight, I was sure, I was growing nerves.
A girl of fourteen describes her childhood as a freak. At the age of eight, she began to notice silvery designs on her palms, like little systems of nerves. They were excruciatingly painful to the touch - but not just to her. She hurt everyone she touched, and was taken away to be studied, and kept where she couldn't hurt anyone - herself included. She finds a way to stay positive, and be helpful to those around her. This is not a story about escaping; it is about learning to love and live with oneself. There may be others like her...I'm not sure, it's very vague right now.

We don’t want to, we don’t have to be like that.
Helena's a 20 year old with a major attitude problem - but it's only a problem for the strict rules of her society. Set sometime in the future, this story is about a girl whose previously 'perfectly normal' world was rocked by a boy named Joey Frost, when she was a teenager. Now Joey and his family are gone, and Helena was left behind by some accident. She's having to deal with her greif at the loss of the love of her life, and refuses to accept her lot in life as another sheep in the flock. She makes plans to escape her oppressive life, and when she does, she comes across challenges she'd anticipated, and challenges she never would have dreamed of. She teams up with a gang of teenagers who live outside society, with no rules or regulations. They live dangerously, always on the edge, and, though Helena would not quite want to be like them, they inspire her to set herself free. Telling you any more would give away the ending! But there may be sequels. In fact, there probably will be, I've already sort of started outlining them :)

my new favorite snack :)

a California original
(you might need to actually be in ca to make this)

ingrédients
1 small Meyer lemon (you can substitute another kind of lemon...)
1 avocado (size depends on desired quantity)
1-2 spoonful(s) of mayonnaise (depending on how much you like your mayo)
pepper
salt
crackers of your choice (I suggest soda crackers)
taste buds!

directions
1: 'Peel' your avocado. The easiest way to do this is to cut it in half with a sharp knife (around the pit), and twist it apart. Then remove the pit, and spoon the fruit into a small bowl (like a cereal bowl).
2: Mash it up! That's the fun part. You can use a spoon, fork...whatever works for you.
3: Add mayonnaise, lemon juice, salt, and pepper to taste.
4: Once you like it, eat it on soda crackers!

restes
What to do with the rest of that lemon? Fill a glass about three quarters of the way with water and ice, and squeeze that lemon juice in it until you think it's enough. Try to avoid getting seeds in the glass, but if you do, you can spoon them out later. Then, sweeten it down with sugar, until it's not too sour for you! Stir it up, and enjoy!

You now have some lovely avocado dip and lemonade - some super California summer snacks. Hope you like them! (If you don't, you don't have to make it ever again.)
